Safety Improvement Manager

Here at Costa Coffee we continue to strive to provide our customers with the quality products they deserve.  As part of our ongoing commitment to this we want a Safety Improvement Manager to join us to drive continuous improvement in safety performance and compliance across the Costa UK&I business.  Identify opportunities for improvement in the policies and procedures owned and/or operated by the Safety & Security team, other central support functions and operating teams.

A bit about the role...

Day to day, you’ll analyse, maintain, and recommend improvements to central Safety and Security processes.  There will also be a number of other exciting tasks including:

  • Provide regular updates on Safety performance to key stakeholders by tracking reports on key Safety metrics
  • Responsible for creating, reviewing and maintaining all Safety related policies, procedures
  • Use insight from available data to identify improvements to Safety training modules/materials. Input into the review of existing, and design of new, training modules
  • Represent Safety & Security on project teams in relation to new products, initiatives, etc to ensure safety issues are properly considered/addressed
  • Undertake horizon scanning to provide early warning of new and emerging risks and liaise with relevant departments to devise early interventions and pragmatic cost-effective solutions to mitigate against changing risk profiles
  • Collate Costa Ltd.’s response to public consultations regarding proposed changes to legislative requirements and guidance

A bit about you…

A passion and proven experience within Safety Improvement is just the start of what we’re looking for. So, what else makes a great Safety Improvement Manager at Costa? 

  • Degree desirable
  • Proven track record of operating and influencing at a senior strategic level
  • Have successfully performed a Safety Improvement Manager or similar role within Hospitality or Retail sector
  • NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Safety & Health, or equivalent (desirable)
  • Experience of working in a multi-site, highly brand standards driven business, with central support functions
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), with proven ability to build strong relationships and work collaboratively with stakeholders, influencing and challenging where necessary
  • Ability to effectively interpret legislation in order to identify implications for the business and devise suitable measures to ensure legal compliance
  • Skilled in making rounded, business focused strategic decisions, which effectively balance risk against cost and consider wider implications and practicalities

Location: Remote with ability to attend our London and Loudwater offices a minimum of once per week and regular visits to stores.
